Since 1965, SPD has stood for excellence in visual culture, empowering its membership to create the future. Its members are united in their pursuit to publish the most compelling stories, across platforms and disciplines. With thousands of entries worldwide, the Society's annual editorial design competition is the largest in the world. Judged by a jury of leading designers, the show produces a unique overview of the year’s best work across print and digital platforms. So it was an honor when our founder, José Reyes, was asked to chair the annual competition as well as lead the overall design theme for SPD 55. That included an 80+ page custom-designed compendium with multiple paper changes, a gate-fold cover, and back cover that was designed and printed as a way to memorialize all of those who won at that year's show. In addition, Metaleap Creative produced show video graphics for social media, as well as for the live video stream of the show itself.
